Courses meeting multiple Common Studies requirements - A course may count toward two Common Studies components, but the 53-credit requirement remains. For example, a student who elected to use PHL 102 (Word Religions) to count toward the Meaning and Value component and toward the Cultural Diversity component would need to take an additional three-credit general component course to reach 53 total house. Such courses are noted in the section "Additional general components".

The requirements for several components include 100-level and 200-level courses in various categories. A 100-level course is one with a course number from 100 and 199, such as English 101 or Math 114. A 200-level course is one with a course number from 200 and 299, such as English 205 or Art 215.
