Common Studies Objectives

  • Write in different modes for a variety of audiences and purposes, using standard written communication skills.
  • Formulate and justify personal positions and beliefs.
  • Produce and critique works of art, showing development of an aesthetic philosophy.
  • Interpret human and/or social dynamics from the perspective of variances in values, aspirations, beliefs, and fundamental assumptions.
  • Recognize errors in reasoning and demonstrate correct reasoning.
  • Apply social and behavioral science methodology to interpreting human experience or circumstances.
  • Apply scientific methodology in examining and interpreting the natural environment.
  • Demonstrate proficiency in verbal communication skills for a variety of purposes, audiences and settings.
  • Defend personal judgments formed while assessing ethical issues.
  • Analyze present human experience in terms of the record of the past.
  • Demonstrate skills in analyzing and manipulating quantitative data.
  • Demonstrate ability to locate, organize, store, retrieve, evaluate, synthesize and annotate information from a variety of sources (print and electronic) to solve problems and make informed decisions.
