The sports management major and minor are designed to prepare students with the necessary communication skills, management techniques, marketing and public relations skills to become successful managers in sport related agencies. This program is specifically designed to meet the needs of students interested in careers in athletics and sports. These careers include professional sports, motor sports, YMCA/YWCA's, public recreation, sports arenas, commercial recreation facilities, fitness centers, golf clubs, and intercollegiate athletic departments.
This major will also help prepare students for continued graduate education in the areas of sport administration and sport psychology. The sport management major is an example of interdepartmental cooperation. In addition to the Sport Management core requirements, coursework is concentrated in business management, marketing, business writing, accounting and computer science. Students are encouraged to secure a minor in communication, psychology, business administration, management or marketing. An internship is required in a sports related agency during the last semester of the program.
