At William Woods University we believe learning without limits means students should have the opportunity to learn in venues beyond the structured classroom setting. Some of these opportunities include study abroad, professional internships and the mentor/mentee program which allows students to work one-on-one with a faculty member on research or other projects.
Other opportunities outside the classroom include PeaceJam, which gives students the opportunity to meet, learn from and have discussions with Noble laureates. Service-Learning combines community service with academic goals and enriches classroom theory with an application to real people in real settings.
Special courses and programs involving classroom experiences are also available to students. First time undergraduate students, as part of the first year experience, take a course called Connections to help facilitate their connections with their peers, the campus, collegiate lifestyle, and faculty and staff who will be a significant part of their experience at The Woods.
Woods Around the World (WATW) is an academic program which offers both classroom learning about a place and culture and a trip to that place for a first hand experience. For example, WATW students traveled to Peru over spring break after studying Peruvian culture and learning about Peruvian history. More recently, WATW students traveled through the American South, visiting sites of significance and meeting individuals who were involved in the civil rights movement.
The Honors program is for students with high ACT/SAT scores who are excited about learning and wish to belong to a small group of students across majors who are dedicated to learning an exploration and who take a set of courses designed to meet their unique needs.
