Scholarship Opportunities

 

At William Woods University, our goal is to help you receive as much financial assistance as you need, as well as to help you utilize your own resources.  We believe that a college education is the best investment you can make.

How to Apply for Financial Aid

  1. You must be accepted for enrollment to the university before a formal offer of financial assistance can be made.
  2. Submit all 2009-10 scholarship materials to the Office of Admissions.
  3. Complete the 2009-10 Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) after Jan. 1, 2010.  These forms can be obtained from your high school guidance office, our Office of Admissions, or completed online at www.fafsa.ed.gov.
  • If you have any questions or need assistance in completing the paperwork for scholarships, please call or e-mail your admissions representative or e-mail admissions at admissions@williamwoods.edu. You can find your admissions representative at the link: Find your Admisions Representative.
  • If you need information regarding the FAFSA or to speak with the Financial Aid office, please call 573.592.4232.

2009-2010 Scholarships and Awards

Merit Awards

  • Merit Awards are only available to incoming freshman.
  • A Merit Award cannot be combined with any other WWU scholarship or award.
  • Merit Awards already include the LEAD Award as part of the scholarship amount.
  • For students submitting an SAT score, WWU only considers the critical reading and math components to determine eligibility.
  • Merit Awards require an application which must be postmarked by March 1, 2010.

Phi Theta Kappa

Available for transfer students. Applicants must have a minimum of 30 transferable credit hours, a cumulative minimum GPA of 3.5 and be in good standing with Phi Theta Kappa. Preference is give to applicants who apply by March 1. This award may not be combined with any other WWU award. Successful completion of the LEAD program and a cumulative minimum GPA of 3.0 are required for renewal.

  • The following scholarships require satisfactory academic progress for renewal.

This award is automatically available to first time WWU students. An annual accumulation of 45 points (resident) or 28 points (commuter) is required for renewal. For more information about the LEAD award, visit TheWoods.edu/LEAD.
 
      Academic
Excellence
$5,000 Automatically awarded to those who have an ACT of 30 or SAT of 1320-1350 or who graduated 1st or 2nd in class or who are ranked in the top 5% of class.
 
       

$4,000

Automatically awarded to those who have an ACT of 28-29 or SAT of 1240-1310 or are in the top 10% of class.
 
       

$3,000

Automatically awarded to those who have an ACT of 25-27 or SAT of 1130-1230 or are in the top 20% of class.
 
       

$2,000

Automatically awarded to those who have an ACT of 23-24 or SAT of 1060-11120 or are in the top 30% of class.
 
           
 
      Academic Performance

$1,000- $5,000

Submitted Application prior to March 1.Open to transfer students. Intended major in Communications, Graphic Art or Graphic Design, Performing Arts or Theatre, Studio Art or Art Education or Equestrian Science.
 
      Disciples of Christ Grant Half Tuition Applicants whose parent is an ordained minister in good standing with the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ). A letter from the regional ministry is required.
 
     

Athlete

Award

Varies

Available to students who demonstrate athletic talent and skills. Contact Athletics, at TheWoods.edu/Athletics. Awards are available in basketball, baseball, cross country, track and field, golf, soccer, softball, and women's volleyball.
 
      Transfer Award $3,000 Automatically awarded to eligible transfer students who have a cumulative minimum 3.0 GPA and who have successfully completed a minimum of 12 credit hours. This award may only be combined with the LEAD award or Legacy Award. Must remain in good academic standing with WWU.

 

Students must work with their admissions representative to determine possible eligibility for these additional institutional awards.

      Legacy Award

$1,000

Automatically awarded to siblings concurrently attending WWU or to a student who is a dependent child of a WWU grandparent, parent or sibling.
 
      A+ Award

$1,000

Automatically awarded upon receipt of certified transcripts from a Missouri A+ designated high school.
 
      Scholar Athlete Award

Varies

Automatically awarded to students who demonstrate athletic talent and skills, participate in a sport, and have achieved an ACT of 27 or SAT of 1210.
 
      WWU Spirit Award $1,000 Available to students selected for the WWU Cheer Squad. Awards are based on try-outs.
