The Office of Admissions is not only the first office students deal with when they choose to pursue William Woods University, we also continue to support students once they step foot on campus as a "Woodsie."
We are proud of the students we recruit and occasionally, we offer special events that honor our incoming students. April 18, 2009, the Office of Admissions will host the fifth annual Academic Honors Reception for those students who had at least a 3.6 GPA or a 27 ACT/1220 SAT score.
The weekend of March 13th, 2009, we offered scholarship interviews for the prestigious Amy Shelton McNutt Scholarship which is 75 percent of tuition room and board and the Distinguished Scholar Award which is $13,750-$16,250 a year, the Honors Scholar Award which ranges from $9,500- $12,000 a year and the Presidential Awards which varies between $7,500 and $11,000. Overall there were more than 167 students who submitted scholarship applications but only 52 interviewed for the William Woods University Merit scholarships.
There were many qualified candidates however, the panel chose incoming Freshman Julia Peairs from Chandler, Arizona as the 2009-2010 McNutt Scholar. Julia had a 1360 on her SAT and a cumulative GPA of 4.65 and will be a graduate of Hamilton High School in Chandler, Arizona. Julia was well prepared for her interview but caught off guard when she was contacted 1 hour earlier than her scheduled appointment time. She caught her breath, composed herself and delighted the panel with her dedication, academics and ability to articulate her answers. She was the unanimous decision from this committee of faculty and staff. Julia is planning to attend William Woods University to major in Equestrian Science however, she has also shown an interest in other academic programs. We welcome Julia to WWU and know she will be an outstanding asset to our University. Congratulations, Julia Peairs this is quite an honor!
