Vern WatkinsCougars Top Owls 89-62

(MAYFIELD, Ky., Nov. 18)--The William Woods University men's basketball team lost at Mid-Continent University on Wednesday night. The Cougars defeated the Owls 89-62. William Woods falls to 1-5 with the loss.

 

MCU took a 45-30 lead into halftime on 51% shooting from the floor. The Owls connected on 8-of-25 shots (32%) in the opening 20 minutes of play.

 

Mid-Continent outscored the Owls 44-32 in the second half en route to the victory. MCU shot 49% from the floor in the win. WWU shot 35% from the floor in the loss. Mid-Continent outrebounded William Woods 55-29.

 

William Woods was led in scoring by junior Vern Watkins (Virginia Beach, Va.) and junior Dan Anderson (Jefferson City, Mo.) with 16 points each. Freshman Logan Decker (Kansas City, Mo.) and freshman Kelsey Bardell (Shape, Belgium) added 10 points each in the loss. Watkins and sophomore Adam Otto (Lake Ozark, Mo.) had a team-high six rebounds each in the defeat.

 

Mid-Continent (4-2) was led in scoring by Kenny Thomas with 27 points. Thomas and Anthony Lipscomb each had 10 rebounds in the win.

 

WWU will return to action on November 21. The Owls will host Ottawa University at 4 pm in Anderson Arena.
