Wilson Named as WWU Student-Athlete of the Month for September

(FULTON, MO., Oct. 27) - Sophomore men's golfer Nick Wilson ( Rocheport, MO.) has been named as the William Woods University Student-Athlete of the Month for September.

Wilson won the Show Me Summer Shootout at Tanglewood Golf Course in Fulton, MO. with a three under-par total of 141 and also won the Cropper Classic in Cedar Rapids, IA. with a seven under-par 137 total. He also was named to the All-Tournament team at the Lindenwood Invitational at Crescent Farms G.C. in Eureka, MO. by finishing in 5th place against a strong national field of 116 players.

For the month Wilson averaged 73.00 and has helped lead the Owls to one of their best starts in school history.

J.D. NashOwls 13th at Preview

(SILVIS, Ill., Oct. 16) - The William Woods University men's golf team finished in a tie for 13th at the NAIA Preview Invitational Tournament in Silvis, Ill. The two-day tournament took place at the TPC at Deer Run Golf Course. The course is the home of the John Deere Classic of the PGA Tour, and home of the 2010 NAIA National Championships.

 

Oklahoma City University won the event. In a field consisting of 17 teams. OCU shot a 594 (+26). William Woods tied for 13th with the University of Mobile. WWU and UM shot a 628 (+60). The Owls finished eight shots out of the top 10.

 

The course and the conditions were difficult during the two-day event. Weather played a major factor with temperatures in the low to mid-40's throughout the tournament.

 

Three Owls finished within a shot of each other at the Preview. Sophomore J.D. Nash (Dixon, Mo.) led the Owls. Nash shot a 79 and a 78 for a two-day 157 (+15). Nash finished in a tie for 50th individually in a field of 90 golfers. Senior Kyle Kovar (Columbia, Mo.) finished in a tie for 52nd place. Kovar shot 79 on both days for a 158 (+16). Sophomore Nick Wilson (Rocheport, Mo.) finished in a tie for 58th individually. Wilson shot an 80 and a 79 for a 159 (+17).

 

Austin Conroy (Indiana Wesleyan University) won the tournament with a 141 (-1).
