Eshell EstrellaOwls Improve to 4-0

(MARSHALL, Mo., Nov. 18) - The William Woods University women's basketball team earned a road victory at Missouri Valley College on Wednesday night. The Owls defeated the Vikings 58-47 to improve to 4-0 on the season.

 

Defense was the story in the first half. William Woods took a 24-20 lead at the half. WWU was held to 39% shooting in the opening half. MVC was held to 28% shooting from the floor.

 

The Owls outscored the Vikings 34-27 in the second half en route to the victory. WWU shot 46% from the field compared to 32% shooting for the Vikings.

 

William Woods was led in scoring by senior Eshell Estrella (Santa Ana, Calif.). Estrella scored a game-high 18 points. Junior Rachel Baker (Mexico, Mo.) added seven points, five blocks and a game-high 10 rebounds. The Owls outrebounded the Vikings 32-20.

 

Missouri Valley was led in scoring by Chelsea Quiring with nine points. Quiring also added nine rebounds in the loss.

 

William Woods will return to action on November 21. The Owls will host Ottawa University at 2 pm in Anderson Arena.
