Palmer Named Scholar-Athlete
(FULTON, Mo., Dec. 3)--Junior Kristi Palmer (Ste. Genevieve, Mo.) has been recognized as an NAIA women's cross country scholar-athlete. Palmer joins 253 other recipients.
To receive the award, the runner must be nominated by the institution's head coach, maintain a minimum grade point average of 3.5 on a 4.0 scale and have achieved junior academic status.
Palmer was a 2009 All-American Midwest Conference and Academic All-AMC recipient this season. She also qualified for the NAIA National Cross Country Championships for the third consecutive season.

Owls Compete at Nationals
(VANCOUVER, Wash., Nov. 21)--Six members of the William Woods University cross country team competed at the NAIA National Championships today in Vancouver, Wash.
On the women’s side, sophomore Cheryl Held (Wildwood, Mo.) finished 68th out of 330 runners with a time of 19:31. Freshman Amy Gangloff (Wellsville, Mo.) finished 127th with a time of 20:04. Finally, junior Kristi Palmer (Ste. Genevieve, Mo.) finished 148th with a time of 20:14.
Jystyna Mudy (Shorter College) won the event. Mudy finished the 5k with a time of 17:30. the top 30 individuals are recognized as NAIA All-Americans. Held missed the mark by 37 seconds.
The Owls qualified as a team in 2006. That was the only year in which they sent more than two runners to the National Championships.

On the men’s side, freshman Ryan Meyer (Bonnots Mill, Mo.) finished 37th out of 323 runners with a time of 25:58. Junior Jason Rose (Lenexa, Kan.) finished 78th with a time of 26:24. Finally, senior Emmanuel Ramirez (Des Plaines, Ill.) finished 91st with a time of 26:30.
Silas Kisorio (Oklahoma Christian) won the event. Kisorio finished the 8k with a time of 24:23. The top 30 individuals are recognized as NAIA All-Americans. Meyer finished seven spots, and nine seconds, off the mark.
The Owls have never sent three individual runners to the NAIA National Championships in one season. In fact, in the relatively short history of the men’s cross country program, William Woods had sent a total of three runners to the event (Juan Robles in 2005 and Brent Almand and Phil Guidry in 2008).
