SCA273 Crime Victimization in America

The primary objective of this course is for students to begin conceptualizing the impact of crime victimization from a systemic perspective. Students will gain an understanding of how victimization affects individuals, families, organizations and communities along with identification of available resources and intervention programs. Class participants will become aware of historical responses to victims as well as current initiatives in services, the criminal justice system and the political arena. Objectives for the course will be met through lectures, video presentations and guest presentations from crime victims and professionals who provide direct services. Additionally students will have the option to engage in a weekend trip to Oklahoma City, OK to observe the Oklahoma City Bombing Memorial and Museum.
