The "Innovation in Art" competition was sponsored by bioMerieux Inc. The contest was open to all students enrolled full time at colleges and universities in North Carolina and Missouri - the locations of the company's two U.S. facilities.
"Innovation in Art" challenged talented and inventive student artists to encapsulate one of bioMérieux's product lines (hemostasis, molecular, virology or bacteriology), divisions, solutions or products in an acrylic or oil painting.
Heaton painted a 50 by 36 inch oil painting based on a microscopic slide view of a microorganism. For his efforts, Heaton won $750. An additional $1,500 was awarded to the art program at William Woods.
"bioMérieux is deeply committed to encouraging creativity, the pursuit of knowledge, and community involvement," said Herb Steward, senior vice president of North American Commercial Operations.
"The 'Innovation in Art' contest winners have exhibited how artistic expression can serve as inspiration in creating solutions-based technology, systems and applications for an increasingly complex medical diagnostics industry, and vice versa."
All artwork will be displayed at bioMérieux's two U.S. facilities, located in Durham, N.C., and St. Louis.
