“Waddle for the Way” is the idea of the Student Alumni Council’s junior class. The event will kick off “Cancer Awareness Week” on campus and is chaired by Sarah Chatham, a junior who is a cancer survivor.
Chatham said, “I think it is imperative to get as many campus and community members involved as possible. It is important for us to raise awareness and donate to this because cancer already affects so many people, and everyone knows someone who has been diagnosed (with cancer) and you never know who could be next.”
At 2 p.m. Oct. 29 at the dock on Junior Lake, Harriet Yelon, associate professor of social work, will speak about how to become knowledgeable about a disease and maneuvering around a hospital setting in a crisis situation.
Participants will then walk (or “waddle”) around campus. The junior class of SAC is asking everyone who participates to donate $1 for the American Cancer Society. There will also be $1 raffle tickets provided by Beks, co-sponsors of the event
All participants will receive a gift.
