According to Joe Potter, artistic director and assistant professor of theatre at William Woods, “Grease” is “one of the most popular musicals of all time.”
Potter describes the play as “the irreverent musical satire about those 1950s gum-chewing, hub-cap stealing, hot-rod-loving boys and wisecracking girls from Rydell High School” and adds, “The cast sings and dances through such nostalgic scenes as the pajama party, the prom, the burger palace and the drive-in movie.”
The cast includes 21 members, bringing both veterans and newcomers to the university’s stage.
Leading off, the cast features WWU junior Jason Flauaus as Danny and introduces Meghan Parks, a WWU freshman, as Sandy.
The Pink Ladies include William Woods students: Janelle Kessler as Marty, Lindsey Mertes as Jan, Lindz Pace as Frenchy and Christy Pinz as Rizzo.
The Thunderbirds feature: Jared Krichevsky as Sonny, Grant Lierheimer as Roger, Drew Lierheimer as Kenickie and Joshua Potter as Doody. All attend WWU, except Drew Lierheimer, who is from Mexico.
Other William Woods students are: Jamie Heisler as Cha Cha, Alarie Sims as Patty Simcox and Ian Didriksen as Eugene. Chorus students include: Barbie Banks, Ellen Gilmer, Brianne Kokemuller, Sharree LaMere and Jenny McGill.
Participants from the Fulton community are: Lawana Brink, who works at Moser’s, as Miss Lynch; Kent Bemberger, who works for Fulton public schools, as Johnny Casino/Teen Angel, and Michael Wilson, a dentist at the Fulton State Hospital, as Vince Fontaine.
The production opens at 8 p.m. Friday, Oct. 18, in Cutlip Auditorium of the McNutt Campus Center. Performances continue Oct. 19, 25 and 26 at 8 p.m. A matinee performance is scheduled for 2:30 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 20.
Tickets for “Grease” are $10 for adults and $5 for children 3-12, however, season tickets are still available through Oct. 18. Other productions planned are the American comedy classic “Harvey,” the psychological thriller “Blood Relations” and the hilarious comedy “Faith County.” Season ticket prices are $25 for adults, $16 for children ages three through 12, and $20 for senior citizens ages 50 and up.
