The students produced the work in classes taught by Terry Martin and Jane Mudd, WWU art professors. Jamie Carey Humphreys, a local artist, judged the competition. Art entered in the Express Yourself Art Competition was based on the
book, “The Air We Breathe,” written by Andrea Barrett. The book is a fictional story about tuberculosis and passion. The story is set in the Adirondacks of upstate New York in 1916 and is based on Barrett’s extensive research on large public sanitariums.
