WWU Students Sweep One Read Art Competition

FIrst PlaceStudents of William Woods University were awarded ribbons for their creativity in this year’s Callaway County One Read art competition, “The Air We Breathe.” The students’ art is on display on the second floor of the Callaway County Public Library.
 
First place winner was an oil by Angela Gard of Palmyra, Mo.; second Second Placeplace was an acrylic by Alyssa Wick of Hugo, Minn., and third place was a charcoal by Kelley Martin of Columbia, Mo. Katherine Binkley of Fulton, Mo., was awarded Honorable Mention for her oil.
 
ThirdThe students produced the work in classes taught by Terry Martin and Jane Mudd, WWU art professors. Jamie Carey Humphreys, a local artist, judged the competition.  
 
Art entered in the Express Yourself Art Competition was based on the Honorable Mentionbook, “The Air We Breathe,” written by Andrea Barrett. The book is a fictional story about tuberculosis and passion. The story is set in the Adirondacks of upstate New York in 1916 and is based on Barrett’s extensive research on large public sanitariums.
