William Woods University will host its annual Alumni Weekend, Friday through Sunday (April 23-25). This year’s theme is “Peace, Love and the Woods,” in celebration of the Woodstock Generation.
All alumni of William Woods are welcome to attend and celebrate with this year’s recognized reunion classes of 1960, 1965, 1970, 1975, 1980, 1985, 1990, 1995, 2000 and 2005.
Kicking off the weekend will be a William Woods/Westminster Golf Tournament at Tanglewood Golf Course from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Friday. The tournament is a four-person scramble for alumni, friends, spouses and parents. A $50 fee includes greens fee, cart, lunch and prizes. Registration begins at 9 a.m.
Also on Friday, from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. in the tent outside Tucker Dining Hall, complimentary coffee will be served while alumni visit with classmates, bid on silent auction items and preview live auction items to benefit student scholarships and alumni projects.
Other highlights for Friday include a happy hour cash bar from 4 to 5 p.m. on Aldridge Patio. Faculty, staff, students and alumni are invited to get together to recognize Dr. Florence Krause, author and WWU professor emeritus of English. A joint reception for William Woods and Westminster alumni will follow at 5 p.m.
At 7 p.m. Friday an alumni dinner and auction will be held. The charge is $25 per person, with limited seating and cash bar.
Several activities take place throughout the weekend. The senior art exhibit will be on display in the Gladys Woods Kemper Center for the Arts from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Friday and 1 to 4 p.m. Saturday and Sunday. The Owls baseball team plays Missouri Baptist University at 1 p.m. Friday and Saturday.
Campus tours will be available from 2 to 4 p.m. Friday and 1 to 3 p.m. Saturday. The WWU Theatre production, “The Diviners,” will be performed at 8 p.m. Friday and Saturday in Cutlip Auditorium.
Highlights for Saturday include the alumni awards ceremony and business meeting from 10 to 11 a.m. in Dulany Auditorium, followed by a reunion luncheon and presidential update in Tucker Dining Hall.
Saturday afternoon, tours of Greek houses and residence halls will be available. Alumni Weekend participants can also enjoy wine tasting and music in the tent outside Tucker Dining Hall. Alumni are welcome to dine with WWU students from 5 to 6 p.m.
The events are sponsored by the Student Alumni Council (SAC) in conjunction with the Alumni Board, fulfilling one of SAC’s missions—to unite alumni with current students.
