WWU Honors Vescovo with Green Owl Award

Jennifer Beggs VescovoJennifer Beggs Vescovo of Memphis, Tenn., was awarded the Green Owl Award during William Woods University’s Alumni Weekend, April 23-25. The Green Owl Award is presented to those alumni who have given years of service to the Alumni Association and the university.
 
During her time as a student at WWU, Vescovo was involved with her sorority, Alpha Chi Omega, and she worked in the admissions office for three years. Following graduation, she remained dedicated to William Woods, working as a William Woods admissions representative for six years. More recently, Vescovo worked as tour operations manager of the Graceland Division of Elvis Presley Enterprises in Memphis.
 
Vescovo has been a member of the WWU national alumni board since 2002 and served as second vice president 2007-09. In May 2009, she was elected first vice president, and in this position oversaw every aspect of Alumni Weekend.
 
She also contributed to this year’s celebration of Black History Month on campus by bringing her friend, the Rev. Samuel “Billy” Kyles, to speak about the civil rights movement and his friend, Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Kyles was with King when he was assassinated in 1968.
 
During their visit, Vescovo and Kyles presented several programs, including, “An Unlikely Friendship,” “A Story of a Movement” and “My Spiritual Pilgrimage.”
