District Speech & Debate Tournament to be Held at William Woods

The competition is sponsored by the Missouri State High School Activities Association and William Woods University. Students finishing in first place in this event will move on to the state level.
There are 13 categories in the speech tournament: one-act play, reader’s theatre, cross-examination debate, Lincoln-Douglas debate, extemporaneous speaking, dramatic interpretation, duet acting, humorous interpretation, poetry reading, prose reading, storytelling, radio speaking and original oratory.
The 25 participating schools are: Bowling Green, Canton, Clopton Pike County R-III, Columbia Hickman, Columbia Independent (Broadway), Columbia Independent (Sexton), Columbia Rock Bridge, Elsberry, Fayette, Fulton, Kirksville, Linn County R-1, Meadville R-IV, Mexico, Milan C-2, Moberly, New Franklin, North Callaway, Salisbury R–4, Southern Boone County R-1, Troy Buchanan, Warren County R-3, Wellsville-Middletown R-1, Winfield and Vandalia.
Joe Potter, assistant professor of performing arts and artistic director of theatre at William Woods, is coordinating the tournament.
