Columbia Student Receives Helen Stephens Award

The award is presented to an outstanding junior athlete who has achieved excellence both in the classroom and in the area of intercollegiate athletics. The student must demonstrate the talent, discipline and desire that best describes the legacy of Olympic Gold medallist and William Woods alumna Helen Stephens.
A varsity softball player, Fiene led the nation in runs scored per game and tied for stolen bases in the nation during the 2002 season. She was named to the AMC Academic All-Conference Team in 2001 and 2002.
In addition, she was named to the AMC first team in 2001 and 2002, the Region V second team in 2001 and Region V first team in 2002. She made the NAIA All –America second team in 2002.
Fiene also received National Fastpitch Coaches Association honors, making the first team for the Midwest Region in 2001 and 2002, the All-America third team in 2001 and the All-America second team in 2002.
A computer and information science major, Fiene is a CIS tutor and has a grade point average of 3.4.
