Annual Alumni Weekend Planned at the Woods

William Woods University will host its annual Alumni Weekend, April 15-17. This year’s theme is “Imagine Yourself Back at the Woods,” in recognition of WWU’s current capital campaign, called “Imagine.”
Alumni awards will be presented to Dr. Elizabeth Fuselier Ellis ’87, executive clinical director of University of Texas Health Services, Alumni Award of Distinction; Deborah Bunn Hutchison ’74, author, film maker, entrepreneur and member of the WWU Board of Trustees, Service Award; Sarah McCune Losinger, community volunteer, Honorary Alumnus; Samantha Bennett Polen ’84, veterinary consultant, Green Owl Award; George Powell, philanthropist, Order of the Owl, and Dan Westhues, MBA ’96, senior vice president, consumer banking, Central Bank in Jefferson City and treasurer of the WWU Board of Trustees, Graduate and Professional Studies Award.
All alumni of William Woods are welcome to attend and celebrate with this year’s recognized reunion classes of 1961, 1966, 1971, 1976, 1981, 1986, 1991, 1996, 2001 and 2006.
Kicking off the weekend will be a William Woods/Westminster Golf Tournament at Tanglewood Golf Course from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Friday. The tournament is a four-person scramble for alumni, friends, spouses and parents. A $50 fee includes greens fee, cart, lunch and prizes. Registration begins at 9 a.m.
Also on Friday, from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. in the tent outside Tucker Dining Hall, complimentary coffee will be served while alumni visit with classmates, bid on silent auction items and preview live auction items. Auction proceeds will benefit student scholarships and alumni projects.
Other highlights for Friday include a joint reception for William Woods and Westminster alumni at Westminster from 5 to 7 p.m. and a happy hour cash bar for faculty, staff, students and alumni from 5:30 to 7 p.m. in the tent outside Tucker Dining Hall.
At 7 p.m. Friday an alumni dinner and auction will be held. The charge is $25 per person, with limited seating and cash bar.
Several activities take place throughout the weekend. The senior art exhibit will be on display in the Gladys Woods Kemper Center for the Arts from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Friday and 1 to 4 p.m. Saturday and Sunday.
The Owls baseball team plays McKendree College at 1 p.m. Friday and Saturday at Backer Sports Complex. The softball team plays Avila at 1:30 p.m. Saturday, followed by an alumni game. WWU hosts a Dressage Show at 10 a.m. Saturday in the Indoor Riding Arena.
Campus tours will be available from 2 to 4 p.m. Friday and 1 to 4 p.m. Saturday. The WWU Theatre production, “Lysistrata,” will be performed at 8 p.m. Friday and Saturday in Cutlip Auditorium.
Highlights for Saturday include the alumni awards ceremony from 10 to 11 a.m. in Dulany Auditorium, a reunion luncheon and presidential update in Tucker Dining Hall, followed by reunion class pictures. A tree planting, in honor of WWU’s recent designation as a Tree Campus USA, will be held at 1 p.m.
Saturday afternoon, tours of Greek houses and residence halls will be available. At 3 p.m. the alumni board hosts a Sorority Circle Rally at the building site. A bags and washers tournament is also scheduled for 3 p.m. From 3:30 to 6 p.m., alumni and friends can enjoy wine and beer tastings with music on Aldridge Patio. A wine and beer by the glass, cheese baskets and logo items are available for a nominal fee. Alumni are welcome to dine with WWU students in Tucker Dining Hall at 6 p.m.
The events are sponsored by the Student Alumni Council (SAC) in conjunction with the Alumni Board, fulfilling one of SAC’s missions—to unite alumni with current students.
