Jessica Gibson, a William Woods University junior from Holts Summit, Mo., is the recipient of the Hellenic Spirit Foundation Scholarship from Missouri Colleges Fund (MCF).

This scholarship is awarded to students enrolled in education degree programs. Gibson was nominated by Dr. Allan Ensor, assistant professor of special education, for her outstanding achievements as an education student.

Gibson graduated from Jefferson City High School in 2008. In high school, she participated in the softball program and the Cadet Teaching Academy. She received the Seal of Excellence Award her senior year for her participation in the academy.

During her senior year in high school, she chose The Special Learning Center to volunteer her time and utilize her cadet teaching hours. Her time spent at the center led Gibson to pursue a career in the field.

In 2010, Gibson graduated from Moberly Community College after receiving the A+ scholarship from the state of Missouri to begin her college courses. Last August she transferred to William Woods University to study special education.

Gibson recently received a promotion at the Special Learning Center to have her own classroom of 2- and 3-year-old children. Her responsibilities include preparing lesson plans, preparing specific sensory activities and building gross motor skills.
