Two Jefferson City Residents Named Outstanding Juniors

Jessica Bargate and Zach Hurst, both of Jefferson City, Mo., received Student Alumni Council Outstanding Junior Awards at William Woods University’s recent co-curricular honors banquet.

The Outstanding Student Awards are the only awards at William Woods University bestowed on students by the nomination and vote of other students. Nominees must demonstrate academic achievement, campus and community involvement and leadership.
 
Jessica BargateBargate is the vice president of education for the Alpha Chi Omega sorority. She is chair of Student Assembly, president of the Multicultural Affairs Club and a member of President’s Twenty, Campus Activities Board, Service-Learning Committee, Order of Omega Greek honor society and William Woods Honor Scholars. She was awarded the art department’s 2010 “Professional Development Award” and the 2009 “Artistic Growth” Award.
 
She has volunteered with Peace Jam, Relay for Life, the Rwanda Community Partnership, Cards for Troops and St. Mary’s Riverside Clinic.
 
Hurst is a member of Pi Kappa Alpha social fraternity. He has been the Zach Hurstchapter’s external vice president, pledge educator and academic advisor. He is also a member of the men’s soccer team, Campus Standards Board and President’s Twenty. He received awards as the 2009 Outstanding Greek New Member, Outstanding Freshman and Sophomore and 2009 AMC Academic All-Conference Soccer Team.
 
He has volunteered locally at a soup kitchen, blood drives, highway cleanup, chaperoning YMCA youth dances, youth soccer camps, participated in Up til’ Dawn and Walk a Mile in Her Shoes and volunteering with a poverty simulation. He is also a head community advisor on campus.
