Vonderschmitt Named Honorary Alumnus

Vonderschmitt manages more than 50 limited partnerships and a portfolio of investments in more than 200 companies. She also serves as a member of the Board of Japan Communications, Inc., a mobile communications company based in Japan.
A native of Japan, she currently divides her time between her homes in Jasper, Ind., and San Jose, Calif., with frequent trips to Japan.
She has extensive experience in the airline industry. During an 18-year tenure with Pan American World Airways, she held various management positions in Flight Service Administration, Crew Scheduling, Recruiting, Employee Training, Marketing, Human Resources, Planning and Operations.
Vonderschmitt holds a bachelor’s degree in economics from Fordham University in New York City and a master of business administration with concentration in finance from Santa Clara University in Santa Clara, Calif. She is a member of Alpha Sigma Lambda and a recipient of the Economist’s Award from Fordham University.
Since taking an interest in horses as an adult, Vonderschmitt has become a skilled rider and avid show horse exhibitor. She became acquainted with the William Woods equestrian program through Bob Ruxer, owner of Ruxer Farms and a lifelong friend of William Woods University equestrian professor Gayle Lampe. Since then, Vonderschmitt has attended many of Lampe’s clinics and currently serves on the WWU Board of Equestrian Visitors.
An extremely generous person, Vonderschmitt has established scholarships for William Woods equestrian science majors in the saddle seat concentration. To make it possible for worthy students to fulfill their potential in the equestrian industry, she pays for tuition, room and board, fees and books for two incoming students each year. Currently, she is sponsoring six students, with plans to add two more in the fall.
