Two educators with ties to William Woods University recently received awards for their contributions to the field of education. The recipients were Jim Head, the director of administrative field experience at WWU, and Kristina Harwood, a WWU graduate.

Head received the Bob Howell Award from the Missouri Association of Secondary School Principals (MASSP) for his contributions to the youth and schools of Missouri, and to the area of school administration.

He has served as the state president of MASSP, and was a member of the executive board of the National Association of Secondary School Principals. He was also the recipient of the Outstanding Principal of the Year Award in 2000 from the Northeast District Principals Association.

Head has more than 31 years of experience as a teacher and administrator in Missouri’s public schools, and has been at William Woods University for the last seven years. As part of his job, he travels across the state working with interns, visiting cohorts and observing classes.

“Serving as a school administrator and being able to continue the work of training tomorrow’s school leaders is reward enough,” Head said. “However, to have MASSP recognize those efforts with this award, just makes it all especially rewarding.”

MASSP awarded Harwood the Assistant Principal of the Year Award. She graduated from William Woods University in 2008 with a Master of Education degree, and returned to the university to get her Education Specialist degree in 2011. She is the assistant principal at Eldon High School, in Eldon, Mo.
