William Woods University’s Student Assembly recently elected new officers. Brittany Kline was elected to chair the organization, and Brooke Thibodaux was elected recording secretary.

Student Assembly is a student-run governing body that gives all students a voice on campus and an open forum to share their concerns and ideas. All full-time students are full members in Student Assembly and are encouraged to attend meetings.

Kline is a junior elementary education major from Kirksville, Mo. As chair, she will preside over the meetings and work closely with Dr. Venita Mitchell, dean of student life and Student Assembly’s adviser, to create an agenda for the meetings.

Kline has big plans for Student Assembly during her term as chair. “I want to increase student involvement in Student Assembly. Most of all, I want it to be a place where my peers can voice concerns, share ideas and increase communication between students and the university.”

Thibodaux is a junior communications major from Wildwood, Mo. As recording secretary, she will take the minutes of the meetings, provide the agendas for each meeting, and send the minutes to Mitchell to be published in Today’s Rumors.

“I decided to run for this position because it will give me a chance to give back to the William Woods University community as a whole,” said Thibodaux. “I like that Student Assembly gives students the chance to bring awareness to the school of any issue they would like to address. We’re very lucky to have a university that considers its students’ input.”

“These new officers will transition in January, and I’m very eager to work with them to see what new ideas they have to share for Student Assembly,” said Mitchell.
