Lessons of life and death are learned in "Our Town," to be presented this month by the William Woods University Theatre Department.

The play will be performed April 19, 20 and 21 at 7:30 p.m. and April 22 at 2 p.m. in Cutlip Auditorium of the McNutt Campus Center.

American playwright Edward Albee described "Our Town" as "probably the finest play ever written by an American."

 

Jason Cavallone of Chicago, Ill., is cast as Stage Manager (the main character/narrator).

 

Our Town explores the relationship between two young Grover's Corners neighbors, George Gibbs, (played by Nick Hoover of Kingdom City, Mo.) and Emily Webb, (Kassaundra Davidson of Roseau, Minn.), whose childhood friendship blossoms into romance, and then culminates in marriage.

 

When Emily loses her life in childbirth, the circle of life portrayed in each of the three acts of Our Town"”growing up, adulthood, and death"”is fully realized.Our Town explores the relationship between two young Grover's Corners neighbors, George Gibbs and Emily Webb, whose childhood friendship blossoms into romance, and then culminates in marriage.

Other WWU student cast members are: Joe Merlotti of St. Louis, Mo., as Howie Newsome; Paige Runge of St. Louis, Mo., as Mrs. Webb; James Fitzmaurice of Columbia, Mo., as Professor Willard and First Dead Man; and Stephen Chamineak of Hazelwood, Mo., as Simon Stimson.

 

Also, Kayla Jo Pulliam of Bloomington, Ill., as Mrs. Soames; T.J. Green of Brandon, Miss., as Constable Warren; Michael J. Dodson of St. Louis, as Baseball Player and Joe Stoddard; Bailey Campanini of Camdenton, Mo., as First Dead Woman and Townsperson; and Maggie Hunter of Columbia, Mo., as Second Dead Woman and Townsperson.

Shannon Magee of St. Charles, Mo.; Jennie McFadden of Alton, Ill.; and Taylor Teel of Sunrise Beach, Mo., play townspeople of Grover's Corners, N.H.

 

Community players are Mya Alonso as Rebecca Gibbs, Jim Bucher as Mr. Webb, Bethany Elliott as Joe Crowell, Logan Garner as Baseball Player, Lindsey Hux as Mrs. Gibbs, Rylee McCray as Si Crowell, Jody Paschal, as Dr. Gibbs, Kim Pierce as Third Dead Woman and Artistic Lady, Josh Rusler as Wally Webb, Teresa White as Woman in Auditorium and Kelsey Wolfmeier as Townsperson.

 

Paschal and Hux are William Woods University alumni and have been seen in numerous productions over the years.

 

The play will be directed by guest theatre artist, Kathy Potter. Joe Potter will provide scene and lighting design. Jane Friedman will design the costumes.
