Zachary Hurst of Jefferson City, Mo., was the recipient of a scholarship from Missouri Colleges Fund (MCF) during his senior year at William Woods University. The son of Daniel and Jeannie Hurst, he recently graduated with a double major in management information systems and business administration.

Hurst received the $1,500 Wachovia Award, provided to students majoring in accounting, business, economics, finance and related disciplines. The recipients must have a strong academic record and contribute to the college community both on and off campus.

He has been involved in men’s soccer, Campus Standards Board, Greek Council and President’s Twenty. He was external vice president of Pi Kappa Alpha social fraternity, head community adviser of Booth Hall. He participates in the LEAD program and intramurals on campus and was a member of two honor societies, Omicron Delta Kappa, a leadership honorary, and Order of Omega, a Greek honorary.

Hurst says that being a member of the men’s soccer program and Pi Kappa Alpha taught him a lot about how to give back to the community. He helped run a youth soccer camp, chaperoned multiple YMCA youth dances with the men’s soccer team, participated in highway cleanup, moved materials and cleaned up Faith Maternity Center, worked with the WWU blood drive, and helped with a poverty simulation for the community.
