Liz Haben of West Chicago, Ill., is the 2012 recipient of the Western Appreciation Award at William Woods University. Each year the riding disciplines recognize an outstanding graduating senior in each discipline.

Haben is a fixture in the Western barn. She has stayed and worked over summers and breaks for WWU’s equestrian studies division and has taught in the Summer Riding Program. She has shown university horses at nationally recognized shows, as well as given green stock many quality hours under saddle.

Living off campus, she has her own training and teaching facility, LL Equine. Before coming to William Woods, Haben attended both Elgin and Black Hawk Community Colleges, graduating from Black Hawk with an associate of arts degree in both equine science and horse science technology.

According to the equestrian faculty, her professionalism, endless drive and demonstration of the continual quest for learning are going to be greatly missed.
