William Woods University dressage instructor Karen Pautz took WWU equestrian summer workers Heather Kruse and Krista Spencer to the Centerline Dressage Classic Aug. 24-26,  in Springfield, Ill.

“This USEF/USDF-licensed show is the last major show of the season for many Midwest dressage riders, and the competition was fierce,” Pautz said. “Nonetheless, both WWU riders excelled.”

Kruse, making her Third Level debut on WWU’s An Honest Request (Paul), won both her classes (Third Level Test 3, the most difficult test of the level), and earned her final scores for her USDF Bronze Medal. The Bronze Medal is award by the United States Dressage Federation to riders who earn at least two scores greater than 60 percent at First, Second and Third Levels.

“Heather earned all her scores on Paul, and earned them all this summer, which is a great accomplishment,” Pautz said.

Spencer, making her Fourth Level debut on WWU’s Take Over (Tigger), also won both her classes, as well as scoring higher than all other Fourth Level riders (juniors, amateurs and open riders), which earned her the Fourth Level Championship.

Fourth Level is the highest of the nationally recognized levels before horse/rider pairs go on to compete at the International Levels. Spencer had completed her Bronze Medal earlier this summer; her Fourth Level scores from the Centerline show will count toward her Silver Medal, earned at Fourth Level and Prix St. Georges.
