A quirky play, simply named “Bob,” will be the next performance by the William Woods University theatre department. Play times are 7:30 p.m. Dec 6, 7 and 8 and 2 p.m. Dec 9 in Dulany Auditorium. The production is rated PG13.

“Bob” chronicles the highly unusual life of Bob and his lifelong quest to become a “Great Man.” Born and abandoned in the bathroom of a fast food restaurant, Bob energetically embarks on an epic journey across America and encounters inspiring generosity, crushing hardships, blissful happiness, stunning coincidences, wrong turns, lucky breaks, true love and heartbreaking loss.

Peter Sinn Nachtrieb, who wrote the play, describes it as “a comedic exploration of American mythology and values, the treacherous pursuit of happiness, and discovering what it means to be truly ‘great.’

“Bob” stars William Woods students Stephen Chamineak of Hazelwood, Mo., as Bob; Paige Runge of St. Louis, Mo., as Chorus One; Drew Arnett of Columbia, Mo., as Chorus Two; Kassi Davidson of Roseau, Minn., as Chorus Three; and T.J. Green of Brandon, Miss., as Chorus Four.

“The four other actors portray between nine and 10 characters each. Their task is to clearly differentiate between each character,” said Melissa Alpers-Springer, assistant professor of communications and director of the play.

WWU graduate Dustin West is the guest designer, and Jane Friedman designed the costumes,
