The students are: Molly McTaggart, a junior from Fulton majoring in accounting and business; Tonia Nelson, a junior from Fulton majoring in business with an emphasis in marketing and advertising, and Allison Gibson, a senior from Jefferson City majoring in business with concentrations in management and marketing.
Money for McTaggart’s scholarship came from A.G. Edwards, which provided a $15,000 grant to Missouri Colleges Fund to be divided among the 12 MCF-member independent colleges and universities. Edward Jones provided the money for Nelson and Gibson’s scholarships, which also gave $15,000 to the MCF Named Scholars Program.
All three women are extremely involved in campus activities and active members of Alpha Chi Omega sorority. McTaggart is the sorority’s current president and Gibson is the immediate past president. Nelson is vice president for recruitment.
All three have been University Ambassadors. McTaggart and Gibson are members of President’s Twenty, while Gibson and Nelson are members of Campus Activities Board and Student Assembly.
Nelson and McTaggart are involved in Student Alumni Council. Nelson served as sophomore class president and McTaggart is currently junior class president. In addition, McTaggart was the only student representative on the WWU Strategic Planning Committee.
Volunteer work is an important part of their lives, with all three especially involved with the Coalition Against Rape and Domestic Violence (CARD-V). They’ve also assisted with blood drives, elementary school carnivals, Missouri Special Olympics and other philanthropies.
