The mediums of its members are wide and varied. As an educational organization, Best of Missouri Hands strives to connect artists in an effort to share knowledge and expertise.
Members speak to school groups, demonstrate at local, state and national events, and continue to educate the public about Missouri’s visual arts and fine crafts.
Juried artist members are recognized as masters in their respective mediums. As such, they are knowledgeable spokespersons for the arts, serving as mentors, public speakers and demonstrators at schools, shows and various other venues.
According to the organization’s website, “Receiving Juried Membership acceptance indicates that an artist has developed his or her craft beyond mere competence of technique to a high standard of quality.”
Selection of juried members is done from slides by a panel of craftsmen and professionals.
Martin has taught at William Woods University since 1988. He received the Louis D. Beaumont Dad’s Association Distinguished Professor Award for Excellence in Teaching at William Woods University in 1990 and the Governor’s Award for Excellence in Teaching in 2002.
A graduate of the University of Missouri, he has earned bachelor of science, master of education and master of fine arts degrees.
