|FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE||(573) 592-1127|
The performance will be at 8 p.m. in Cutlip Auditorium of the McNutt Campus Center. Part of the WWU President's Concert and Lecture Series, it is free and open to the public.
The City in Motion Dance Company is made up of eight professional dancers who demonstrate remarkable chemistry on stage. Under the artistic co-direction of Donna Alexa Frogge and Andrea Skowronek, an environment is created that supports the evolution of original and unique dance pieces that appeal to an expanding audience base.
Frogge is a WWU alumna, who graduated from William Woods with a bachelor of fine arts in 1982. She earned her master of fine arts in dance from the University of Colorado. Skowronek received her B.F.A. from Stephens College.
The performance at William Woods will feature six pieces by the artistic co-directors and a seventh piece that is the work of guest artist, Kathleen Kingsley, who was one of the original founders of City in Motion.
The pieces range from “O’er the Field, a highly energetic, playful work, to “Babel,” a new work that is loosely based on the biblical story of the Tower of Babel. Another piece, “In Stereo,” represents a humorous look at the inner workings of a car stereo system.
Established in 1985, City in Motion’s mission is to foster the development of high-quality contemporary dance programming and expand the dance audience in metropolitan Kansas City.
City in Motion builds bridges in the community with a school of dance, a professional modern dance company and a performing series. The troupe has performed in several states and at the 1992 World's Fair in Seville, Spain.
