|FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE||(573) 592-1127|
The play is set in an old store near Last Chance, Mo., and is about the interactions of a group of individuals who regularly patronize this local gathering spot. The store is a dinosaur in the modern world of convenience, but many of the regulars think of it as a second home.
“Ain’t Nothin’ Quick ‘n Easy” explores the ravages of consumerism on a small town business in the Ozark Mountains.
The cast includes a number of William Woods students: Maggie Inhofe of St. Peters, Mo., as Skip Wilford; Chris Cunningham of Mclean, Va., as Fred Deakins; Taylor Davidson of Kansas City, Mo., as Willy Williamson; Bethany Hall of Des Moines, Iowa., as Ermaline Wilford, and Brianne Kokemuller of Clinton, Iowa., as Ellie Dee.
Also, Mike Zumwalt of Fenton, Mo., as Doc Aberdeen; Hunter Nesbitt of Jenks, Okla., as Sexton Bryant; Stephanie Powers of Florissant, Mo., as Jenny Wolf; Adam Dresden of Quincy, Ill., as “Milk” Weberman, and Dan Binning of St. Charles, Mo., as Tod “The Rod.”
Other cast members are WWU alumnus Lindz Pace of Fulton as Jo Beth Bryant and Wesminster College student Shawn FitzWilliam as Archibald Barker.
“Ain’t Nothin’ Quick ‘n Easy” takes place in an old general store where everyone comes to solve life’s problems and catch up on the latest gossip.
Rough times hit the town when problems with meth labs, imminent arrival of both a certain “super-center” and a southern style restaurant chain threaten the very existence of the old way of life and the “mom and pop/small businesses.” And the new Interstate is by-passing the town.
Barker, the store’s owner, is faced with a difficult and potentially devastating decision.
The play will be guest directed by adjunct instructor Melissa Alpers-Springer. Guest Artist Dan Springer will design the set and lighting for the production. Jane Friedman, staff costumer, will design the costumes.
Technical director will be Shaun Speers, a WWU student from O’Fallon, Mo. Another student, Kristin Bailey of Columbia, Mo., will serve as stage manager.
Performances are scheduled for Dec. 1, 2 and 3 at 8 p.m., with matinee performances on Dec. 3 and Dec. 4 at 2:30 p.m. in the Dulany Auditorium of William Woods University. There will be a special talk-back session with the author following the play on Dec. 2 and the matinee on Dec. 3.
