The United States won the gold medal for both the three-gaited and five-gaited competition. Three William Woods equestrian majors helped represent the United States: Jamie Bender, a junior from Springfield, Neb.; Liz Duggan, a senior from Clearwater, Fla., and Amanda Wright, a senior from Ilion, N.Y.
The International Invitational was created in the spirit of the well-known World Cup competitions, designed to give other young adults a chance to experience that same type of team camaraderie, as well as a chance to showcase their equestrian talents on numerous different horses.
Similar to World Cup competitions, the invitational consisted of rail work, as well as pattern work for both five-gaited and three-gaited teams.
Equestrian professors Gayle Lampe and Laura Ward were the local facilitators and the United Professional Horsemen’s Association (UPHA) Chapter V served as co-sponsor.
