Student athletes, particularly those whose sport is in season, have extensive demands on their time. First-year athletes should not attempt more than 15 hours when they are in season. However; it is recommended that they enroll in 15 hours of courses so they will still be eligible to complete if they must drop a class.
Athletes in season should also avoid classes that start after 3:00 p.m.
Encourage the athletes you advise to be familiar with their practice regimen and game schedule before putting together a schedule for the upcoming semester.
- Calculate a grade-point average
The academic grade point average (GPA) is determined by multiplying the
quality points assigned to each letter grade (A = 4; B = 3; C = 2; D = 1; F =
0) by the credit for each course. The resulting total quality points divided by
credit hours attempted produces the grade point average. The grade of F
carries no quality points but the credits attempted are calculated into the
student's grade point average. Grades of I, CR, and W, do not carry quality
points, are not tabulated as hours attempted, and do not affect the grade point
average.
- Declare or change a major
Students complete an Intent of Major form to indicate what major they are pursuing, which catalog they are under, and their projected graduation date. The original of this form is kept on file in the Registrar’s Office.
Students may indicate that they are undecided about a major on this form. It is preferable to indicate undecided as opposed to selecting a major half-heartedly.
Students who have earned 45 hours must declare a major. If a student has more than 45 credit hours and has not declared a major they will not be able to register for classes for the next semester.
Students may make changes to this form at any time. However; the registrar’s office is very busy during class registration periods and may not have time to allow the student access to the form.
Students are considered under the most recent catalog when the Intent of Major form is initially filled out, and when any changes are made. When a student makes a change, their entire program of study is subject to the major and minor requirements listed in the most recent catalog.
- Withdraw from the university
Students withdrawing from the university need fill out a withdrawal form with Michelle Kemp. She will assist them with any questions regarding their financial responsibility, moving out of the residence halls, etc.
- Get readmitted to the university
Students who left WWU and attended another college or university will need to apply for re-admission through the Office of Enrollment Services. Students who left WWU and have not attended another college or university will need to fill out a readmit form through the Registrar’s Office. Students who leave in good standing generally do not have difficulty getting readmitted. Students who leave in poor academic standing will be asked to demonstrate how their performance will change.
