2/13 2nd Annual Erase Hate 5K Run/Walk, Stephens Lake Park, 201 E. Broadway, Columbia, MO (Gordon Shelter)
Celebrate Valentine's Day with TCP by helping to ERASE HATE with the proceeds of the race benefitting The Center Project.

At our first Erase Hate 5K, we honored the memory of 15 year old Lawrence King who was brutally murdered on February 12, 2008 by a school mate who King asked to be his Valentine in front of other peers. Today, we remember Lawrence and all victims of senseless, hate-based violence. We also celebrate the 2009 Matthew Shepard & James Byrd Hate Crimes Prevention Act that was signed into law by President Obama on October 28th. This Act makes it easier for authorities to track and prosecute hate-based crimes, including those motivated by the victim's actual or perceived gender, sexual orientation, gender identity & disability. Help us ERASE HATE by participating in this walk/run and educating others that freedom of gender identity & expression and sexual identity is a right of every individual and that the act of expressing that freedom should not equal a life of persecution, or even worse, a death sentence.
WHEN:  Saturday, 2/13, 11:00 am start (registration open at 10:00 am)
WHERE: Stephen's Lake Park, 2001 E. Broadway (East Broadway and Old Highway 63) For a map of the park, see: http://www.gocolumbiamo.com/ParksandRec/Parks/Stephens_Lake/
