Job Title: Mentor Program Coordinator

Reports To: Director of Interpreting Services

Job Type: This is a part time, exempt position.

General Description:

To coordinate and support the ASL Interpreting Program Mentoring Initiative (IPMI) aimed at addressing the nationwide shortage of qualified ASL-English interpreters. The Mentor Program Coordinator will provide academic, administrative, and community-based leadership to foster professional growth among recent graduates and alumni of William Woods University's ASL Interpreting Program while also promoting engagement with the broader interpreting community.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Mentorship Program Development and Management:

?       Design, implement, and oversee the ASL Interpreting Program Mentoring Initiative (IPMI) to support recent graduates in enhancing interpreting skills and preparing for certification.

?       Coordinate weekly mentoring sessions for recent graduates to provide personalized feedback, skill development, and career readiness guidance.

?       Organize workshops and professional development events for interpreters, generating revenue to sustain the initiative.

?       Develop resources and materials to support mentors and mentees, ensuring alignment with program objectives and industry standards.

?       Monitor and evaluate mentee progress, mentor feedback, and overall program effectiveness to ensure high-quality outcomes.

Faculty, Mentor, and Alumni Engagement:

?       Recruit, onboard, and train mentors with relevant professional qualifications and expertise to support program goals.

?       Collaborate with program faculty to identify opportunities to integrate mentorship into the broader curriculum and alumni initiatives.

?       Foster strong connections with alumni to encourage their participation as mentors or workshop facilitators.

?       Provide ongoing support and guidance to mentors, ensuring consistency in program delivery and alignment with best practices.

Administrative and Leadership Responsibilities:

?       Collaborate with the Director of Interpreting Programs and ASL-EI faculty to align mentoring initiatives with the objectives of the ASL Interpreting Program.

?       Work with university partners to oversee logistical aspects of the program, including scheduling, communication, and online platform management.

?       Prepare reports on the program's impact, progress, and financial sustainability for submission to program leadership.

?       Coordinate program marketing and outreach efforts to promote workshops and mentoring opportunities to the wider interpreting community.

Community and Industry Engagement:

?       Build partnerships with interpreting organizations, certification bodies, and local Deaf communities to strengthen the program’s reach and impact.

?       Represent the program and William Woods University at professional conferences and events to enhance visibility and attract participants.

?       Stay informed about trends in the interpreting field, particularly around certification requirements, to ensure the program addresses emerging needs.

Position Requirements:

?       Certification in ASL-English interpreting (e.g., RID, BEI, State) or substantial professional interpreting experience.

?       Strong organizational and leadership skills, with experience in mentoring, teaching, or program coordination.

?       Familiarity with challenges and opportunities in interpreter certification and the interpreting profession.

?       Excellent communication skills and a commitment to supporting diverse learners and professionals.

Work Schedule:

Monthly Stipend: $1200/month

Contract Bi-Annual: January - June, July - December.
