Job Title: Assistant-Associate Professor of Theater

General Description:
William Woods University is accepting applications for a full-time, tenure-track faculty position to teach Theater courses and serve as the Director of Theater Arts.
The primary function of the Director of Theater is to direct and promote the Theater program through coordinating events that target community involvement and student recruitment. The individual will develop, implement, promote, and document programs for various audiences. The Director of Theater Arts will run and oversee all elements of a theatrical production including but not limited to set design, directing, costuming, and additional duties as they arise. This position is responsible for assisting with recruiting students for the College of Art, Design, and Media.
The contracted teaching load is 6 hours per semester, with the opportunity to teach additional courses. Full-time faculty are expected to participate in faculty and campus committees, attend faculty assembly and school meetings, and conduct program and class assessments in accordance with standards developed by the University and outside accrediting entities. Faculty are also expected to develop educational programs to be presented to the campus at large as part of the University LEAD program and to attend such programs sponsored by other faculty in the University.
Rank and salary are commensurate with qualification and experience.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Teaching
· Teach lower and upper-division Theater courses and related Music/Speech courses as needed.
· Assist students with academic advising.
· Prepare course syllabi for assigned courses that meet the needs of students and university requirements.
· Participate in the development of assessments and evaluation of courses and the program for continuing improvement.
· Maintain professional development according to personal and professional need.
· Assist in recruitment efforts for the program by participating in university recruitment events and communicating with interested students.
· Responsible for maintaining relationships with alumni of the program.
· Collaborate in curriculum design and materials development for the Theater program.
Theater
· Develop a Musical Theater concentration within the Music dept.
· Develop, implement, promote, and document theater performances for a wide range of audiences.
· Assist with the recruitment of students for the College of Art, Design, and Media
· Prepare for and lead rehearsals for Theater performances.
· Lead Summer activities to help promote the theater/music depts.
· Design sets and lighting; supervise student set builds and light hangs.
· Direct all performances.
Other duties as assigned may include, but are not limited to:
· Other duties as assigned by the Dean of the College of Art, Design, and Media.
· Duties subject to change based on skills of applicant and needs of the department.
Position Requirements:
A Masters in Theater is required with experience in directing, while a terminal degree is preferred.
· Ability to perform teaching, administrative, and clerical duties independently to fulfill goals and objectives of the program within the overall mission of the department, the College of Art, Design, and Media, and the University.
· Teaching experience at a higher educational institution is preferred.
· Demonstrated commitment to professional development, strong work ethic, and a commitment to working well with others.
Typical Physical Demands:
· Ability to lift up to 30 lbs.
· Ability to crouch, kneel, bend, or stand for long periods.
· Ability to work outdoors.
Work Schedule:
This is a full-time, 12-month position. This position will be open until filled.
