James M. Schmuck

James M. “Jim” Schmuck, PhD joined the board of William Woods in 2016.
The Wildwood, MO resident is a ’72 graduate of Westminster College, where he majored in physical education and English. He later earned a master’s degree in English and a doctorate in higher education administration, both from St. Louis University.
Schmuck has always been heavily involved in education. He was an English teacher at McCluer North High School in Florissant, MO and Parkway South High School in Manchester, MO, during which time he was responsible for earning several grants. He also taught literature and composition courses as an adjunct instructor at St. Louis University and the University of Missouri-St. Louis.
Athletics is also another one of his passions. Schmuck served as head coach of the men’s cross country and track and field teams during his time at Parkway. He was named the 2005 National Cross Country Coach of the Year by the National Federation of High Schools, and was elected to the Missouri Track and Cross Country Coaches Association Hall of Fame.
Schmuck has held leadership positions in several organizations, including serving as a member of the board of trustees at Westminster College and as the president and an executive committee member of the Missouri Track and Cross Country Coaches Association. He is currently on the national executive council for the Kappa Alpha Order fraternity and on the board of governors of the National Churchill Museum, of which he was also the chairman and senior fellow.
He is married to William Woods alumna, Alpha Chi Omega Foundation Board of Trustees member, and fellow William Woods board member, Judy Kuergeleis Schmuck ‘72.
