Montrice O'Neal

Born and raised in Winston-Salem, North Carolina, Montrice O’Neal has always been driven by a deep passion for student development and creating meaningful experiences that shape young leaders. His journey in higher education began at North Carolina Central University, an esteemed Historically Black College/University (HBCU), where he earned his Bachelor of Science degree. During his time at NCCU, he discovered his love for student engagement while working in Campus Recreation, a role that ignited his desire to serve and uplift students throughout their college experience.

This passion led him to pursue a Master’s degree at Lincoln University, where he expanded his expertise in student affairs, and he is currently completing his Doctor of Education (Ed.D.) in Adult Learning at William Woods University. Throughout his career, O’Neal has embraced roles that allow him to mentor, empower, and create opportunities for students to thrive.

His professional journey spans over a decade, with leadership roles at institutions such as Lincoln University, where he served as Director of Student Engagement and Assistant Director of Campus Recreation, and Southern University, where he led as Dean of Students. These experiences have shaped his holistic approach to student life—one that values care, connection, and community at its core.

Since joining William Woods University in 2023, O’Neal has dedicated himself to enhancing student experiences, first as Director of Student Engagement, then as Associate Dean and Interim Vice President of Student Life. Now, as the newly appointed Vice President of Student Life , he leads critical areas such as Residential Life, Student Engagement, Campus Safety, Counseling and Health Services, University Dining, and the LEAD Program. His role is deeply rooted in ensuring that students not only succeed academically but also feel a strong sense of belonging and support throughout their college journey.

Beyond his professional endeavors, O’Neal is a proud member of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity Inc. and a devoted husband to his wife, Arlicia M. O’Neal. As a leader and advocate for student success in every aspect of life. His leadership philosophy is simple yet profound: create an environment where students feel seen, heard, and empowered to reach their fullest potential. As he continues to shape the future of student life at William Woods, his mission remains clear—to build a campus culture that truly embodies care, connection, and community.
