Honorary Organizations

Academic success is recognized and highlighted through various national and international honorary organizations active on campus.

Alpha Chi

Alpha Chi is a co-educational honor society whose purpose is to promote academic excellence and exemplary character among college students. Membership is limited to the top ten percent of juniors and seniors and is open to students from all disciplines.

Alpha Mu Gamma

Alpha Mu Gamma is the first and largest national collegiate foreign language honor society of the United States. It was established on April 29, 1931 at Los Angeles City College by five members of the College foreign language faculty. The five members recognized the need for a society to honor achievement in all foreign languages at an early stage in the student's career. The interest shown by the other colleges and universities inspired an almost immediate expansion into a national organization. More than 307 chapters exist in the United States, Puerto Rico and the US Virgin Islands. Chapters are found both in state and private universities, four years as well as two year colleges. The Society has grown so large because it honors excellence in ALL languages so that it encompasses all foreign groups.

Alpha Psi Omega

Throughout the country, Alpha Psi Omega has sponsored the formation of theatre honor societies in high schools and colleges, with the aim of encouraging dramatic production at every step in a person's academic career and to recognize and reward exemplary student participation in those productions. Alpha Psi Omega has enjoyed continuous national growth and, with over 600 casts, is the largest national honor society in America. Colleges and universities of recognized standing, having an established theatre program or theatre club for the purpose of producing plays are eligible. Throughout the history of the world, theatre has held an integral position in the physical, spiritual, social, psychological and emotional development of society. Theatre has enabled cultures and societies to express their inner most thoughts, feelings, ideas, values and struggles. Theatre has mirrored society, fueled public opinion, been used as a teaching tool, offered a place for the expression of ideas, fired the imagination and been a source of healing, spirituality and entertainment. In other words, theatre has always challenged humankind to push the boundaries of insight and perception and has helped to build individual and cultural diversity.

American Sign Language Honor Society

The mission of the ASL Honor Society is to encourage and recognize high academic achievement in ASL studies. The ASLHS Seeks to enrich the learning experience of those studying ASL.

Beta Beta Beta

Tri-Beta is an honorary biology society for those with outstanding enthusiasm for the subject and a holding of a minimum GPA of 3.25 and have completed at least one term of the second year of a 4-year biology curriculum.

Gamma Alpha Zeta

The WWU GAZ chapter is a club that helps students explore Criminal Justice degrees. It is the local chapter of the national organization Lambda Alpha Epsilon. The members in the club have to at least been in one Criminal Justice class to join. There is a regional and national conference with competitions for students to participate in.

Iota Tau Alpha

Our Mission is to function as an honor and professional society for students of Althletic Training Education and stumulate interest, scholarly attainment, and investigation in Athletic Training Education.

Kappa Delta Pi

Kappa Delta Pi is an honor society for Education majors. It is governed by a National organization where teachers and future teachers can come together to further their education and get ideas from each other.

Kappa Mu Epsilon

The Missouri Xi chapter of Kappa Mu Epsilon is an organization devoted to furthering the interests of mathematics at William Woods University. We strive to help undergraduate students realize the important role that mathematics has played in the development of civilization and to develop an appreciation of the power and beauty it possesses, due mainly to its demand for logical and rigorous modes of thought. We also wish to provide a society for the recognition of outstanding achievement in the study of mathematics at the undergraduate level.

Lambda Pi Eta

The Xi Zeta Chapter of Lambda Pi Eta recognizes Communication majors for their dedication to academic excellence in the field of communication. Lambda Pi Eta is a nationally recognized honor society and is a branch of the National Communication Association.

Omicron Delta Kappa

Omicron Delta Kappa (ODK) is a prestigious National Leadership Honor Society that strives to give recognition and honor for meritorious leadership and service in extracurricular activities and to encourage development of general campus citizenship. ODK recognizes achievement in 5 areas of campus life

Other indispensable qualifications for membership include; exemplary character, responsible leadership and service in campus or community life, superior scholarship, genuine fellowship, and consecration to democratic ideals. Students must be referred by a faculty or staff member to apply, must have a cumulative 3.4 GPA, and must be a junior or a senior.

Order of Omega

The Order of Omega is a Greek leadership honor society. The main purpose is to recognize those students who have attained a high standard of leadership in inter-Greek activities. We reward them for their achievement, encourage them to continue along this line, and inspire others to strive for similar attainment. We will also serve the important role of molding the sentiment of the institution on questions of local and intercollegiate affairs. In addition, we believe it is important to bring together student members of the institution's fraternities and sororities to work effectively with faculty and alumni to set positive examples and solidify excellence. Students must be an initiated member of a Greek letter social organization recognized by North-American Interfraternity Council, National Panhellenic Council or William Woods University. Students must be a junior or senior, with a grade point average at the all-Greek average or higher.

Order of Omega students promotes Greek service projects on campus and in the Fulton community, and award outstanding seniors at the Greek Awards Ceremony in the spring who exhibit the values of Order of Omega.

Phi Alpha

Phi Alpha is an honor society for students majoring in Social Work. Students are nominated in their junior year based on their overall coursework in the Social Work area.

Phi Alpha Delta

The William Woods University Pre-Law chapter of Phi Alpha Delta Law Fraternity. International provides students with a national network of access to preparation and admission to law schools, preparation for the LSAT, and opportunities to participate in a variety of law-related activities on campus including mock trial, moot court, debate, public service, and other political/legal programs. William Woods' Award Winning chapter was chartered in 1998.

Phi Alpha Theta

Phi Alpha Theta was founded in 1921 as the international honor society for history. To be eligible for admission, undergraduate students must complete at least 12 hours in History with at least a 3.1 GPA in those courses, earn at 3.0 or better overall GPA and be in the top 35% of their class.

Psi Chi

Psi Chi is an international honor society whose purpose shall be to encourage, stimulate, and maintain excellence in scholarship of the individual members in all fields, particularly in psychology, and to advance the science of psychology. The mission of Psi Chi is to produce a well-educated, ethical, and socially responsible member committed to contributing to the science and profession of psychology and to society in general.

Sigma Tau Delta

An international English honors society with chapters in over 30 countries, Sigma Tau Delta's central purpose is to confer distinction upon students of the English language and literature in undergraduate, graduate, and professional studies.
