Student Technology Guide

Welcome
University Information Technologies (UIT) welcomes you to William Woods University. UIT Help Desk is here to assist with technology during your semesters at WWU. We provide service and support for a wide variety of issues that range from laptop repair to account help. We encourage you to take advantage of all of the technology services we have to offer.
All students should setup the following systems in this order:
- Connect to wireless
- Setup your emergency alerts on your laptop and mobile devices. Do Not Delay!
- Sign in to Quicklaunch, Owlnet, and your Email
- Optional — Sync your email to your phone
- Optional — Install your free version of Office 365, if you do not already have Office
Wireless Configuration
ResNet is available in all residential halls (basement not included). Everywhere else, you will use WWU Wireless and authenticate with your Quicklaunch account. Coverage expands to Junior Lake, the soccer fields, and the baseball fields. Wired connections are available in each residential hall.
Note that if you use Windows 7 you will need specific configuration to use WWU Wireless. You may perform the one-time configuration yourself, or one of our technicians can assist. Refer to Owlnet: there is a one-time configuration you will need to perform. You may also bring it to the Help Desk for configuration.
Instructions can be found on Quicklaunch > Student HelpDesk > under Wireless Internet choose Connect to the secure WWU Wireless System.
Your WWU Quicklaunch Account
Quicklaunch is used to access campus resources including classes.
Username: Refer to your welcome email.
Temporary Password: Refer to your welcome email.
Refer to your acceptance letter for your student ID number.
Setup Your Quicklaunch Portal
- Go to williamwoods.edu > New and Current Students > WWU Quicklaunch
- Sign in with your credentials (you will be asked to enter your password twice)
- Answer the 3 security questions and click Continue
You may change your password at any time by clicking "Forgot My Password" on the Quicklaunch portal and answering your three security questions.

- Student All My Courses: Access to your courses (not online) including assignments and final grades
- Student Lead Calendar
- Student Vehicle Registration
- Student Forms
- Student Financial Services: access bills, check balance, make payments
- Student Email and Office 365: Login to your email and install Office 365 (Optional)
- Staff Help Desk: Technology information including instructions and video tutorials and discounts on technology purchases
- Brightspace: Online course access for any course ending in OLC
Email and Office 365
Username: Refer to your welcome email.
Password: Refer to your welcome email.
Refer to your acceptance letter for your student ID number.
Your WWU Email is your access to correspondence through WWU. It is your responsibility to check this account. You have the flexibility to forward this account to a personal account, or set it up on your mobile device. Instructions for this are located under Student Help Desk on Quicklaunch.
Office 365 is included in this account free of charge to our students. Once you are logged into your email, go to Settings > Office 365 > Install and Manage Software. Make sure you do not already have a copy of Office installed before you begin.
Via
Via is used for assessment in some, but not all classes. Refer to your syllabus for direct access from your Owlnet or online class.
Username: Refer to your welcome email.
Password: Refer to your welcome email.
Mobile Devices
Your WWU Email can be setup on your mobile devices such as Android and Apple devices. You may also find it helpful to have it forwarded to an alternative account. Instructions for this are located on Quicklaunch > Student HelpDesk > Owls Email and Mobile Phone Set Up.
Emergency Alerts and WWU App
Computer Alerts: Our campus emergency system can be downloaded to your personal desktop and blasts any emergency warnings directly to your monitor. Alertus can be downloaded from Owlnet > Students > Student Life > General Links >Alertus Desktop Emergency Notification.
Text/Email Alerts: Emergency text and Email alerts are available to all students, faculty, and staff. It is automatically setup to email you in case of an emergency. You are responsible for setting it up for texting if you prefer. To setup text alerts, go to williamwoods.regroup.com. Your login credentials will be your WWU account.
Download the WWU App to check out LEAD events, campus news, and other events at williamwoods.edu/smartphone.
Campus Computing, Labs, and Printing
Virtual Lab – Anywhere/Anytime on campus: Access a student lab from anywhere on campus, even your residential hall. Visit vdi.williamwoods.edu > choose Install VMWare > enter the name of the server as vdi.williamwoods.edu. Using your WWU account, you can connect to a WWU computer and take advantage of WWU software and printers.
Owls Nest in McNutt upstairs (open 24 hours) or Dulany Library (open until 11 p.m. most evenings): Students can print from a WWU computer to a WWU printer. Printers are located in labs in the library, Owls Nest Lab (Macs), Kemper Art Center labs (Macs), and Science building lab. Printing costs 5 cents per page for black and white copies. Color copies are 10 cents per page. Color printing is available in the Library. Each student is given $5 balance at the beginning of each semester. Additional prints may be purchased by adding to your account at the cashier's window.
Discounts and Computer Support
Discounts for WWU students from AT&T, Sprint, CDW, Dell, and Apple can be found on Quicklaunch > Student HelpDesk > Computer and Wireless Discounts. Before you purchase Office, keep in mind that you receive Office 365 (full Office suite) with your Email account free of charge.
Computer tech is included on most computer problems while you are a student on your personal computer. Major repairs such as hard drive failures or data recovery can take 2 — 5 business days.
Residential Technology
Gaming consoles can be used on our Resnet network. Spectrum U is the streaming programming service used on campus. Offering a wide variety of live TV, entertainment, news and sports programming, you can stream your favorite shows with Spectrum U through desktops, TVs, mobile devices, Roku TVs, Roku + sticks, and Chromecast.
